The Union Cabinet may accord classical status to Odia language within a week, said a Press release issued by Rajya Sabha member Rama Chandra Khuntia on Tuesday.
After getting approval from the linguistic Committee of the Kendra Sahitya Academy on July 23, the process had been delayed as the Home Ministry and the law Ministry had some reservations. later, the two Ministries sent their recommendations to the Cabinet Secretariat after Khuntia took up the matter with the Ministers of both the Ministries. Khuntia also had met Union Minister V Narayanasamy, Culture Minister Chandresh Kumar Katoch, Cabinet Secretary A Seth and Culture Secretary Rabindra Singh in this regard.
