The Childline here on Sunday saved a HSC examination-appearing girl from being married off by her parents at Sindurpur village in Ganjam district.
The Childline swung into action after it received a phone call through 1098 that the parents of the girl, Geeta, have made all arrangements to marry off her on Sunday even as she is now appearing the Matriculation examination.
Acting on the information, CWC Chairman Dr BB Bairagi Patro, CDPO Krishna Nanda, Children representative Sarbesh Mohapatra, Balaram Mallik, District Child Protection representatives along with police went to the village and stopped the marriage after holding discussions with parents, relatives, clan leaders, villagers and the local Sarpanch. The parents and the girl signed undertakings in this regard, informed Childline director Sudhir Sabat.
