A Class-VI student has died under mysterious circumstances at a hostel of a government school at Bataguda under Balliguda tehsil in Kandhamal district.
The deceased was identified as Satyananda Nayak, a student of the Bataguda Govt High School run by the Odisha ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department.
The family of the minor boy alleged negligence by school authorities for the sudden death of the student at the hostel.
The 12-year-old boy lost consciousness after having a meal at the hostel on Saturday. The school authorities rushed him to the Balliguda SDH, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
School Headmistress Padmini Pradhan said the health condition of the student was well. After he fell ill, he was taken to the hospital.
However, the family brought negligence allegation against the school authorities for death of the student.
“Two days ago, the boy’s mother had visited him at the hostel and he was completely fine. After two days, we got the information from villagers that he is dead. Even the school authorities did not inform us about the incident. When we approached the doctor, he said the boy had already died before reaching the hospital. It indicates that he died at the hostel due to negligence by school authorities,” said the deceased’s uncle, demanding compensation from the school for loss of the life.
