The controversy over Shankaracharya of the Puri Govardhan Peeth took a new twist with Govardhan Peeth Jagadguru Shankaracharya’s spokesperson Manoj Rath demanding arrest of claimant for Shankaracharya title Swami Adhokshananda Teertha.
At a Press meet held here on Thursday, Rath said a NBW has been issued against Swami Adhokshananda by Puri First Class Judicial Magistrate Court since May, 2015.
The State Government’s Home Department should arrest Adhokshananda forthwith, demanded Rath.
“In 2000, Swami Adhokshananda had claimed to be the Shankaracharya of the Govardhan Peeth. The Puri Town police had arrested him on complaint against the claimant when already Nischalananda Saraswati is the Sankaracharya. later, adjudicating over the dispute, the High Court had directed that the claimant cannot enter into 1,000 metre of the Govardhan Peeth.
Besides, the court also had instructed that Adhokshananda cannot claim to be the Jagatguru Shankaracharya and has to inform police when he comes to Puri. However, Adhokshananda has defied it all,” lamented Rath.
like Chhattisgarh, the Odisha Government should also restrict entry of Adhokshananda into the State, he demanded.
