Coming down heavily on Ppposition parties for not raising the chit-fund issue either in the State Assembly or outside properly, resulting in the slow pace of the probe by the CBI, as many as 22 civil society organisations on Friday gheraoed the CBI office here demanding speedy probe.
The activists under the aegis of the Civil Society Alliance demanded that the Central investigating agency disclose the links between the tainted chit fund firms and Minister Sanjay Dasburma and his arrest.
The alliance charged that BJD leaders have bribed a huge amount to the Central BJP leadership to dilute and derail the CBI probe into the chit fund scam in the State.
“Crores of people have suffered in the chit fund scam. Many BJD leaders and Ministers have links with the chit fund companies. Considering the magnitude of the scam, the Supreme Court directed a CBI probe into it. Meanwhile, two years have elapsed and the investigation has derailed. Unfortunately, the opposition parties fail to raise the issue properly while the BJD managed to strike a secret pact with the BJP Central leaderships to save it,” said Pradip Pradhan, who led the agitation.
He demanded that the CBI probe the money trail of the companies involved in money circulation business.
“The CBI is being controlled by the BJP remotely and the chit fund probe has been derailed due to the BJS-BJP bonhomie,” alleged Pradhan.
“Though tainted chit fund AT chief Pradeep Sethy, in his statement recorded under Section 161 of CrPC, had said that a Pajero vehicle was given to Dasburma by his company, why was the Minister not called for questioningIJ This raises suspicion,” he asked.
later, a delegation of the alliance presented a memorandum to the CBI SP and warned that it would continue its protest until the CBI discloses the involvement of Ministers with the chit fund scam in public.
Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Amar Prasad Satpathy said the Chief Minister is scrutinising the alleged links of Dasburma with chit fund firms and would take action at right time.
