In apprehension of further delay in establishing a Government medical college and hospital here, the Government Medical College and Hospital Action Committee has chalked out strategies to intensify its agitation to put pressure on the Government to complete the project and start teaching from the 2017-18 academic session.

The committee’s women wing staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Thursday.

“The retired employees and senior citizen wings of the committee will stage demonstrations on Friday and Saturday. Similarly, dharnas and demonstrations would be staged in front of both the gates of the Collectorate and other Government offices on January 24. And the committee has called for a Baleswar Bandh on January 25,” informed committee general secretary Niranjan Parida.

“The foundation stone for Baripada medical college was laid after the stone laid for Baleswar medical college. While a MCI team has already visited Baripada, no one is giving importance on the Baleswar project. We want work be started along with Baripada. The proposed college should begin from the academic session 2017-18 without delay as the contractor has assured to complete the building by March-end,” he said.

While Gopamudra Mohapatra presided over the meeting, Sradhanjali Ray, Pratima Panda, Yasodhara Das, Archana Nandi and Mamata Mohapatra spoke, among others.

later, they submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through the district Collector.
