Deprived of basic amenities, the inhabitants of ward no 12 under Sonepur Municipality held dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Monday.
Ward 12 is plagued by several civic problems. Surprisingly, the area is close by the Municipality Office, yet its problems like supply of drinking water and electricity, proper drainage system and sanitation facilities have not been able to attract the attention of the civic body authorities.
With about 650 voters, the area is home to poor families, who earn their living as daily wage labourers. Probably for this reason, their problems fall in deaf ear of the authorities despite repeated complaints.
“We have approached several times to the departmental authorities but till today they never do anything to end our miseries,” lamented the residents of the ward.
Water crisis and lack of electricity have added to the woes of the residents. There is no supply of electricity to the houses here. Some families go for hooking to bring electricity to their houses illegally, claimed resident of the ward Damodar Dunguria.
Municipality Executive Officer Ashok Mishra came to the dharna spot and assured the agitators of immediately solving their problems. later, the dharana was lifted.
