A woman of Patrapada on the outskirts of the city died on Wednesday evening under suspicious circumstances. Though the deceased’s husband dubbed it as a mere suicidal case, parents of the woman alleged that she was killed by her husband.
The deceased was identified as Devadasini Barik (21) alias Ranu, wife of Pratap Barik (34) of Patrapada. The Khandagiri police are investigating into the case after registering two cases from both the sides.
According to reports, Ranu, daughter of Bhramarbar Barik of Bantali village under the Gop police limits in Puri district, was married to Pratap of Dhingar under the Begunia police limits in Khordha district five years ago. They have a child.
As the marriage was out of a love affair, Bhramarbar didn’t keep any relation with his daughter and her in-laws. He was not happy with Ranu as she chose a married man as her life partner.
“We had started talking with the couple only a few months ago. Pratap had asked me for Rs 50,000 to build a house, but I could not give the money,” said Bhramarbar, adding, “It might be the reason behind the murder of my daughter.”
He said his daughter had several scars and injury marks on her body which clearly shows that she was killed. The claim of suicide was a drama to cover up the murder mystery, he added.
