The first transgender toilet facility will be available at the Biju Patnaik Park here. The toilet would be built as per specifications laid by the Public Works Department and Public Health Engineering Department of the State Government.
Once the work order is issued, the facility would be available for use within one month’s time by the contractor. It would cost Rs 3.6 lakh to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
It can be mentioned here that Odisha would be the fifth State in India to have toilets for the transgenders. Previously the Punjab University, the Mysore Municipal Corporation, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and the Kochi metro have designed such toilets for the thirdgenders.
