City slum kids sensitised on personal hygiene

In a bid to educate slum children about personal and environmental cleanliness to mark Global Hand Wash Day, the Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD) in association with the Practical Action and the Bernard Van leer Foundation organised a sensitisation programme here on Monday.

The programme with a theme, ‘Raise a Hand for Hygiene’ featured activities like drawing, oath-taking and demonstration on hand wash practices for the slum kids.

CCWD Secretary Sadasiv Swain said the hygiene development plays an important role in children’s growth; hence, one should promote personal hygiene as well as maintain cleanliness around his surroundings. “Hand washing practices can address 40 per cent diseases. Washing with soap before food and after deification is more important for a healthy life,” he added.

He said children need to make hygiene practices from an earlier stage so that their homes and community would remain clean always.

Among others, Deputy Mayor K Shanti, OCPCR member Rajalaxmi Das and Indian Red Cross, State branch secretary Dr Chakradhar Panda were present.
