The Commissionerate Police on Monday cracked a loot case that had taken place in February last year by arresting four persons. In this case, three miscreants looted `17 lakh from the staff of a city-based hospital.
All the four arrested miscreants, who hail from Ganjam district, had looted the money from employees of the Aditya Care Hospital in front of the Andhra Bank near Damana Square under the Chandrasekharpur police limits on February 3 last.
One of the arrested persons is a former employee of the hospital. He was identified as Gagan Kumar Nayak, who worked as an office assistant.
Police recovered cash, a pistol and two motorcycles from their possession.
“The loot took place with the help of a hospital staff, who worked as an office assistant and had passed on the information to his aides that cash was being taken to the bank in a vehicle for deposit. The accused have been arrested from the Buguda area in Bhanjanagar. They are also involved in three more loot incidents in the city this year,” Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma told reporters here.
The three bike-borne armed miscreants had looted cash of `17 lakh along with a `1-lakh cheque kept in a bag from an employee of the hospital at gunpoint.
The accountant of the hospital, Jayadev Kumar Das, accompanied by the driver, an unarmed security guard and three other staffs of the hospital were on their way to the bank in the office vehicle to deposit the cash and the cheque.
