In a bid to strengthen community policing and prevent crimes in city, newly appointed Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Sunday said the Commissionerate police would soon start intelligence-based operations.
“Our top priority is to check anti-social activities in each and every locality in the city. Though police-public interface has been started at several police stations to bridge the gap between the locals and police, intelligence based operation would definitely help the police to prevent petty crimes in respective localities,” Sharma told mediapersons after attending a police-public interaction meeting at Sainik School here.
Many senior citizens, locals and corporators of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation under Saheed Nagar police station attended the meeting.
He assured that the names of the informers will be kept confidential while dealing with such cases and urged the people to inform police about unsocial activities in their localities. “Phone numbers of some officers will be given to the public to share information,” added Sharma.
The officials responding to queries about recent spurt in crimes in the State capital stressed on co-operation from public and lauded the courage of a bullet-hit youth who recently helped the police nabbing a chain snatcher in Nageswartangi area in the city.
