The city police on Wednesday busted a vehicle theft racket and arrested four persons of the gang, including the key accused. The police have also seized two cars and a motorcycle from their possession.
According to sources, the modus operandi of the gang was very unique and their targets were the prospective sellers who were wishing to sell their vehicles on internet through different vendors.“After seeing the advertisements on internet, the members of this gang were getting in touch with the prospective sellers. Indicating that they are willing to sign the deal, the conmen would take the vehicle for a test drive and would not return again”, said a senior police officer here describing the modus operandi of the racket.
Basing on a complaint filed by one Sisir Kumar Rout at Chauliaganj police station here, the police were able to bust the racket after a sincere investigation. Rout had wished to sell his motorcycle through a vendor through internet and paid the price when the prospective buyers turned out to be the members of this gang.
