Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Monday informed that a police team would visit the Rabindra Nath Tagore Hospital in Kolkata to inquire into an alleged case of kidney removal.

The shocking kidney theft came to light here on Sunday with one Bulu Behera lodging a complaint at the Badagada police station, alleging that one of his kidneys was removed in the Kolkata-based medical.

The victim, an employee of Jayadurga Transport Company limited at Goutam Nagar in Bhubaneswar and a native of Budichandi lane in Tulasipur area under the Bidanasi police station of Cuttack, alleged that the company owners, Prasant Sahu and Susant Sahu (brothers), on the pretext of collecting blood, took him to Kolkata and got one of his kidneys removed by administering him anesthesia.

Alleging that his owners, after luring him with financial assistance, got his kidney removed and transplanted it in their sister’s body, Behera said he was offered just Rs30,000 after the operation.

Behera, who joined as a worker of the company in January last year, was requested by Prasant and Susant to donate blood for their sister who was undergoing treatment at the Rabindranath Tagore Hospital. Behera agreed to oblige after much persuasion and was taken to Kolkata on September 17 last year and on September 19, the doctors at the hospital, administered him anesthesia.

“When I regained consciousness, I found my right side of the stomach stitched and later, came to know that my kidney had been removed,” said the victim in his FIR.

His owners managed to carry out the kidney transplant with the help of fake documents that identified him falsely as their sister’s husband, Behera said in his complaint. Meanwhile, the accused, the two brothers and their sister Minati, are absconding, police said.
