A breach in the nearby canal embankment flooded the Garage Chhak area in Bhubaneswar throwing normal life out of gear in the area on Wednesday morning.
The Kedargauri apartment block was marooned while overflowing water from the canal inundated the low-lying areas nearby.
local MlA and Tourism Minister Ashok Panda and Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipality Corporation Ananta Narayan Jena rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
“Because of excess water, the retaining wall of the canal has given way. Currently, we have diverted the water to drain no. 10. Once the water is diverted, we will construct the retaining wall,” the Mayor said.
