City firing: Cops still groping in dark

Even though 15 hours have elapsed into the firing incident on a variety store owner in Sampur area on the city outskirts on Thursday night, the Commissionerate Police are yet to get any clue about the culprits.

According to reports, at around 10 pm on Thursday night, when the shop owner Susant Behera (24) alias Budhia and his younger brother Nishant Behera alias Papu were about to shut down their shop located near a Canara Bank ATM in Sampur, three bike-borne youths suddenly appeared there and snatched away the gold chain from Papu’s neck. When Papu opposed the miscreants, they hit him on his head with a weapon and opened two round bullets on Budhia.

“They suddenly came to my shop, when I was about to close it at around 10 pm. They first snatched away a necklace from my brother and hit him on his head. When I opposed, they fired two rounds on me and fled from the spot,” said Budhia from the hospital bed.

“We suspect the incident to be an outcome of previous rivalry. However, a manhunt is on to nab the culprits,” said a police official of Khandagiri police station.
