City drain encroachers to be evicted

In view of several areas being waterlogged in rains in his constituency area, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) MlA and Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda on Monday chaired a meeting to decide on eviction of the people who have encroached drain lands.

“Those who have encroached upon the main drain in the city will be evicted soon. Besides, natural drains will be revamped and new drains will be constructed. This apart, the Gangua drain will be widened,” said Panda.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, who attended the meeting, said the drain encroachers would not be included under the ‘Sarbakhyama’ Yojana. Around 10 sensitive points have been identified where people have encroached the Gangua drain. All of them would be evicted within a year for extension of the drain, he said.
