A wanted criminal, who was injured in an encounter near new Jagannath Sadak under the Mancheswar police station late on Tuesday night, was produced in a court hereon Wednesday.
The notorious criminal Sashanka Nayak sustained several injuries in police firing and was admitted to the Capital Hospital, but when his condition deteriorated he was shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
Acting on a tipoff, the special squad of the Commissionerate Police tracked down Nayak near Jagannath Sadak. The criminal, on realising that he is being pursued by the police, first opened fire. The Special Squad fired in retaliation.
