A day after arresting one Mohd Rubel of West Bengal accused in a fake currency racket, a special squad of the Commissionerate Police would leave for Malda in West Bengal soon to find out the details about the racket.

Since Malda district is notorious for fake Indian currency notes (FICN) racket, investigators believe FICN racketeers have spread their network in big cities, including Bhubaneswar. Police said that it is easier to circulate bogus notes in the urban market.

The city police would also apply for a five-day remand of Rubel.

The police detained Rubel and seized 16 fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from him here on Saturday. Rubel was arrested on Sunday.

A resident of West Bengal, Rubel came to a mobile shop in the Bomikhal area of Bhubaneswar with fake notes to buy a mobile phone. The shopkeeper suspected the notes as fake and informed the Saheed Nagar police who nabbed Rubel immediately.
