City bus fare slashed from today

The private operator of JNNURM city buses, Dream Team Sahara (DTS) on Monday slashed bus fares by 10 per cent for normal passengers and 20 per cent for smart card holders per km. The new fare would be effective from Tuesday, said DTS sources.

Under pressure of consistent fall in diesel prices, the DTS authorities earlier on Thursday had submitted a proposal to the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department for a fall in price of fare.

A reduction in fare would directly benefit more than 55,000 passengers travelling in the city buses. The bus operator had earlier revised fares on September 26, 2014, when the price of diesel per liter was Rs63.

Since September 26 last year, diesel prices have gone down by around Rs12, taking the current cost to Rs50.68 per litre. Around 150 city buses, including 12 air-conditioned are plying on 20 routes in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Jatni, Khordha and surrounding areas.
