City builder shot dead over land dispute

In a daring act, three unidentified armed miscreants gunned down a builder of IRC Village under Nayapalli police station on Monday morning and managed to flee from the spot by creating terror among the public.

On the fateful day, Kalingaputra Real Estate and Developers managing director Krushna Chandra Nayak was returning from Kalinga Putra Security Services (KPSS) office at N1 lane of IRC Village to his residence at N3 lane with one Sabyasachi Jena in a bike, when three miscreants on a Pulsar bike intercepted Nayak's motorcycle near the post office and opened fire at the builder indiscriminately.

According to Jena, the goons didn't listen to anything and continued to shoot at Nayak. When nobody came to the rescue of the builder, he called police to take a profusely bleeding Nayak to hospital.

The builder after few minutes' treatment in a private hospital succumbed to his injuries. He received three bullets, two on the right side of the lower abdomen and another on the left side of the lower abdomen, said the doctors.

Meanwhile, Nayak's son Dhanajay alleged that one Subrat Das and his aides killed his father. "My father had given Rs 20 lakh to Das for purchasing a plot at N4 lane. However, I and my father were sent to jail in a murder case soon after. When we returned from the jail, we asked Das about the plot, but Das refused to give either the plot or the money, which created a rivalry between him and us. Three days back, Das had been to my father's office and threatened to kill him," said Dhanajay, adding that Das used Supari killers to do away with his father.

"The incident happened due to previous enmity over a land dispute. We are investigating into the matter. We will nab the culprits very soon," said DCP Nitinjit Singh.
