The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested Shibani Builders managing director Ratikant Kanungo from his house at Chintamaniswar under the laxmisagar police limits here on the charge of duping a customer of more than Rs22 lakh.
According to sources, Kanungo had taken Rs22 lakh in phases from a customer and promised him to provide land in the State capital. Sources said the accused neither handed over land to the man nor returned money.
The victim filed a case against Kanungo at the Saheed Nagar police station recently. Acting on the complaint, the Saheed Nagar police station officials raided the house of Kanungo in Chintamaniswar area and detained him on Thursday. On Friday, the police arrested him and sent to court.
Earlier, Central Bureau of Investigation officials arrested the accused on charges of gold loan fraud. He had taken a loan of more than `1 crore from Odisha Gramya Bank by mortgaging counterfeit ornaments. He was recently granted bail.
