In view of the delay during arrival and departure of flights, the Biju Patnaik International airport here would be expanded with construction of another parallel taxi track on the runway.

The parking space would be expanded accommodating 11 flights. There would be a rapid exit track through which the flight would make exit from the running track immediately after landing.

An amount of Rs 100 crore would be spent for the project with a target to complete it by March 2019, said Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Guru Prasad Mohapatra.

“A modernised control tower is being built at the airport. The works for the fire station and a workshop are also in progress for which Rs 64.29 crore will be spent. The project will be completed by March 2019,” Mohapatra told reporters on Friday.

The Terminal-1 and two buildings would be integrated at a cost of Rs 12 crore for convenience of overseas passengers. The project would be completed by March 2018, he said.

Upgradation would be made in front of the Terminal-1 building for passengers for entrance. Besides, a blueprint has been prepared for Radar, Reciprocal IlS, Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS) at the airport, he added.
