CHSE gives 24 hrs to teachers for evaluation

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) on Tuesday made a fresh appeal to the striking Block Grant college teachers and urged them to join the Plus II answer-sheet evaluation process by Wednesday.

CHSE Chairman Basudev Chhatoi told reporters here that the council has decided to give 24 hours to the non-Government college teachers to join the evaluation process, failing which it would make alternative measures.

Chhatoi, after chairing an emergency Examination Committee meeting to find out ways for smooth conduct of the evaluation process, said it was decided to make one last request to the teachers to join the evaluation work keeping the future of the students and the expectations of their parents in mind.

“If they do not join, we have made alternative arrangements,” said Chhatoi, adding that the Officers on Special Duty (OSDs) of all Government, Autonomous and Degree colleges and the three new universities, Rama Devi Women’s, Khallikote and GM, have been requested to relieve their teachers for evaluation duty.

They would evaluate answer-sheets at the nearest zones, and the council would treat these as regular appointments, added Chhatoi.

He said that so far only 20 per cent (1,400) teachers of a total required number of 7,000 have joined duty.

Chhatoi also did not agree to the public perception that teachers, who would be appointed by the council, are not acquainted with the Plus II courses. Meanwhile, both the 662 and 488 Block Grant teachers reiterated that they would not cooperate in the evaluation process.

After getting intimation from the CHSE, ADG (law and Order) Satyajit Mohanty said 10 platoons of police force were deployed near the 49 evaluation centres to maintain law and order.
