Once a vital industrial town during the Biju Patnaik regime as the Chief Minister, Choudwar still keeps its generations-long tradition of observing Rupayatra, which commences from the Kumar Purnima.
The Mahalakshmi Puja and the Rupayatra were started here on Saturday.
About 40 Puja pandals of Maa lakshmi have been installed. The pandals and gates of Mahabir Bazar, laxmi Bazar, Kalinga Bazar, Biraja Bazar, Mundamala, Parida Sahi, Nua Sahi, Kapaleswara and Brahmana Sahi are the main crowd pullers.
The police administration is engaged for traffic management and to thwart any untoward incident. The festival would continue up to October 19.
