CBI Joint Director Rajiv Singh and SIT DIG S Bagchi arrived here on Thursday to take stock of the progress of the ongoing investigation into the Odisha chit fund scam.
Sources said the two officials would have a meeting with local CBI SP Rajiv Ranjan, who also holds additional charge of CBI SIT SP and the Investigating Officers (IOs) probing various cases relating to the scam.
As the investigation into the chit fund scam appears to have slowed down considerably in the recent past, sources in the CBI said the meeting would discuss revving up the investigation again.
The visit of the CBI honchos is also being linked to the massive rally held by thousands of duped chit fund investors from all over the State under the banner of the Arthika Sansthamanankadwara Kshyatigrastanka Milita Mancha (ASKMM) on Wednesday.
Alleging that the probe has slackened as a result of a political deal between the Naveen Patnaik Government and the BJP-led Central Government, Manch leaders demanded that the culprits be pursued and prosecuted relentlessly.
