Chit fund petitioner decries top CBI official's 'role'

Alok Jena, on whose petition the Supreme Court has directed a CBI probe into the mega chit fund scam in the State, has levelled a serious allegation against the premier investigating agency’s Special Director that he does not want a speedy and transparent probe into the scam.

In an open letter to the CBI Special Director Anil Kumar Sinha, who is also in charge of the investigation process of the mega chit fund scam in Odisha and West Bengal, a copy of which is also sent to media, Jena alleged that Sinha instead of encouraging the CBI sleuths seems to be demoralising the officials in various methods.

“The reason for demoralising CBI sleuths here is best known to the Special Director himself. Arresting the former AG Asok Mohanty, the CBI had done a great job bringing trust and hope in public mind. But the role of the CBI lawyers in the court was insincere,” the letter stated.

Jena threatened that he would knock at the door of the Supreme Court again against such practice. He also warned that a large number of people from various civil society groups would stage a demonstration in front of the CBI office here soon demanding a speedy and transparent inquiry. The reasons are not known clearly why Jena showed apprehensions against Sinha.
