Chit fund panel public notices to 576 firms

The Justice MM Das Commission probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in the State has served public notices to as many as 576 ponzi firms asking them to depose before it between April 15 and September 24 this year.

Despite being asked, these firms have not deposed before the commission earlier. Hence, the commission served the notice through newspapers this time.

Sources said the notice was slapped on 199 chit fund companies having office addresses and on 377 firms, whose addresses and details are not available with the commission.

Notably, the State Government has extended the tenure of the probe panel by an additional six months.

The panel has identified 2,18,354 small depositors so far and recommended the Government for a refund of their deposits.
