The Arthika Sansthamanankadwara Kshatigrastanka Milita Mancha (ASKMM) on Sunday reiterated its threat to demonstrate in front the State Assembly here on November 20, the day the Winter Session of House begins, to press its demands.

According to the Mancha convenor Jayanta Das, after a string of chit fund cases surfaced last year, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had assured that the duped depositors would get their money back. But till date, the 40 lakh-odd duped depositors across the State are yet to get their money refunded.

“A large number of people, duped of their hard-earned money by the chit fund companies in the State, will hold a rally in front of the Assembly on November 20 under the banner of the ASKMM,” said Das here at a Press conference.

He said the Mancha has submitted petitions of nearly 32,337 investors of 16 districts cheated of Rs23,37,11,620 at the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for justice.

The Mancha also reiterated its demand for a survey of the duped depositors and fraudulent companies to ascertain which company has taken what amount of money from the depositors.

It also demanded immediate amendment in the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Collective Investment Schemes) Regulations, 1999 and the Odisha Protection of Depositors’ Interest Act to ensure 100-per cent refund of the investors’ money.

Mancha chief advisors Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Rabi Das slammed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his silence on the chit fund issue.

“While the CBI is arresting BJD MPs and MlAs in connection with chit fund scam, party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is stating that this is their personal business. Do we expect such an answer from a Chief Minister in a democratic State,” asked Patnaik.
