A combined front which has been working for the cause of investors and agents of the chit fund companies on Tuesday said it would make chit fund fraud an election issue and campaign against the State Government if their deposited money is not paid back by April 9.
Addressing a Press meet, front convenor Jayant Das informed that about 40 lakh families of the State have been affected due to chit fund frauds and said the loss amount could be around Rs 1 lakh crore. He said the Patra Commission’s claim that Rs 32 crore has been refunded by a multi-level marketing company ‘Prayag group’ is baseless. “Neither a single investor nor an agent has got money from the Prayag group as far as the information available with us,” Das said.
The State Government had assured the voters during the last UlB elections that it would take steps to refund money to the chit fund investor. Even though six months have elapsed nothing tangible occurred. The Government is trying to swindle the people, Das alleged. If the affected investors don’t get our money back by April 9, they would campaign against the Government making it an election issue, Das said. Front joint convenor Jaykrushna Dash and investors and agents of several chit fund companies were present.
