Chit fund: Bijay seeks SC-monitored SIT probe

Published on:

A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared a judiciary inquiry into the chit fund scam, BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra on Friday demanded a SIT probe into the financial irregularities under the active supervision of the apex court.

Mohapatra at a Press meet here said the State Government should issue an ordinance to confiscate the property of the fraudulent firms and bring back the invested money from the companies to compensate the investors.

“Now the State Government is in a highly confused state and is yet to come to terms with the magnitude of the fraud,” said Mohapatra, adding, “In this situation, the State Government should allow for a SIT probe monitored by the Supreme Court.”

Countering the view of Mohapatra, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Damodar Rout said the opposition leaders perhaps do not want any punishment for the officials of the fraudulent companies for which they have been misleading with various statements so that the culprits skip the whip of the investigating agency.
