Chit fund: AT chief Sethi gets 5-yr jail

Published on:

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Sambalpur Saroj Kumar Pati awarded five years imprisonment to chit fund firm Artha Tatwa Group director Pradeep Sethi, who is facing swindling charges here.

The AT Group had a branch office in Sambalpur near the GM University. It collected crores of rupees from the public with false assurance of giving high returns.

But when the investors didn’t get back their money after the maturity date, they raised their voice. One of the aggrieved investors Raghumani Das of Anand Vihar Burla had invested Rs 6 lakh in the AT.

But he didn’t get back the maturity value after the due date. Hence, Das had lodged an FIR in the Burla police station and the EOW later had taken over the case.  Since there was documental evidence in the matter, the EOW had registered a case against Sethi.

“Today the CJM after hearing both sides found Sethi to be guilty and awarded five years of imprisonment,” informed public prosecutor Gyana Ranjan Panda.
