Students of the Padmapur Primary Shool in Jiba panchyat under Gumma block in Gajapati district are attending their classes on the school verandah due to shortage of adequate classrooms.
Started in 1971, the school has now nearly 150 students and four teachers. But due to the apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities, the school lacks basic facilities like proper infrastructure, alleged locals. “Despite our repeated appeals to the concerned authorities for early completion of the under-construction school building which was started one year ago, nothing positive has happened as yet,” alleged locals.
Headmaster in-Charge of the school B Bhimarao said, “Since there are no sufficient classrooms and infrastructure, we are teaching students ‘Sahaja’, a newly introduced subject by the School and Mass Education Department, on the school verandah from 10 am to 1.30 pm as per the direction of our higher authorities.” When contacted, Gumma Block Resource Centre Coordinator Jamana Karaya said the under-construction school building would completed soon to sort out the issue.
