In today’s society, senior citizens are mostly unheard and neglected. Most of them don’t even know if the Constitution protects them with any rights and entitlements.
This was opined by children from different districts of the State participating in a State-level essay competition ‘Rights and Entitlements of Senior Citizens-Odisha’s position and way forward’ held here on Tuesday.
The winners of the district-level essay competition participated in the state-level contest, a part of the HelpAge India’s ‘Student Action for Value Education (SAVE)’ programme that aims at sensitizing students on issues related to senior citizens in the society.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal Secretary of the Social Security and Empowerment of PWD Niten Chandra. Among others, eminent journalist Shyamahari Chakra, children writer Dash Benhur and Sujit Mahapatra from the Bakul foundation were present.
HelpAge India State Head Bharati Chakra delivered the key note address and Programme Manager Ranjay Das facilitated the event. The competition winners were given prizes. The event ended with a cultural show.
