In a shocking incident, the family members of a 4-month-old child who had died and was buried, exhumed the body after 4 days, swayed away by words of a godman that the child was still alive.

The incident took place at Dharsadhipa area of Ekatali under Jharsuguda Municipality.

As per reports, the child of Shivratri Devi, a resident of Dharsadhipa area of Ekatali, was suffering from some aliment and was brought to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital on December 1, but he was declared brought dead. Later, the child was buried near their home at Dharsadhipa area of Ekatali on December 1 by the family members.

But, on Friday morning, after a self-styled godman told them the child was still alive, the child’s mother along with other family members exhumed the body. On receiving information, the Jharsuguda Childline officials along with Jharsuguda police reached the spot and took the mother and body once again to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where the doctors again declared the child as dead.

Jharsuguda Childline coordinator Ashish Kumar Panda said, “We received information that a child’s body had been exhumed by its family members on  believing a godman that the child was alive.  We along with Jharsuguda police officials soon rushed to the spot and took both the mother and his child once again to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital for confirmation.  However, again it was declared brought dead. It was pure superstition because of which the incident took place. However, we request everyone to not to believe in such misgivings by any godman or sorcerer.”
