A team of the Odisha Child Rights Protection Commission on Friday visited the Jalakhtua Primary School at Mahisapata under Bahanaga block in Baleswar district to conduct an inquiry into whether a Class III student got his hand fractured after being beaten by a woman teacher of the school.
The team opined that the State Government should bear all expenses towards the student’s medical treatment and give Rs50,000 as compensation to him. Besides, action should be taken against the errant teacher and the school headmistress.
“The treatment cost and compensation should be given to the child as the incident took place in the school premises, although we couldn’t find out the proof that the teacher caused the injury. We will recommend the State Government to take actions against the teacher as well as the headmistress as they failed to bring the matter to the notice of the higher authorities,” said commission member Rajendra Meher in a statement.
The incident came to the fore after the child’s father Sudarshan Bharati lodged an FIR with police on Thursday in this regard. Sudarshan alleged that teacher Puspalata Das beat his son Sudhansu with a wooden stick which resulted in a fracture in his left hand.
