A man lodged an FIR here alleging negligence in treatment by doctor leading to death of a baby in mother’s womb at the Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital recently.

He brought the matter before the CDMO and the local police seeking justice. The mater is under investigation by a team which will submit its report very soon.  Sources said Suraj Kumar Naik, a resident of Jaisara village of Sabdega block had admitted his pregnant wife Jharana in Sundargarh DHH on September 10 last. Dr Pushpamitra Bhitria in the hospital had given her delivery date as September 28. However, since she was feeling severe pain, her husband had brought her to the hospital on September 10. Dr Bhitria had advised her for ultrasound test in his clinic.

After doing the test, Dr Bitiria had confirmed that the position of the child was absolutely alright. On September 18, Dr Bhitria had again done the ultrasound test and had confirmed nothing wrong with the child. At around 2.30 pm on September 18, when Jharana felt severe pain, Dr Bhitria again did the ultrasound test and told that the child had died in the mother’s womb. Thereafter, Dr Bhitria advised the nurses to take her to the labour room. After taking Jharana to labour room, when Dr Bhitria was called, he did not turn up. The nurses finding no other alternative had called Dr Dilip Sarangi to look to the case. Dr Sarangi brought out the deceased child and said that the child had died three days ago.
