The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought additional report from the Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) pertaining to the sexual abuse of a child in the district by April 30.

Radhakanta Tripathy, a child rights activist and lawyer of the Supreme Court, in his complaint on January 7 last had alleged that Kaustubh, a six years’ old child of Panchapada village under Chandbali police station, was sexually abused and later was thrown into a bush near a cemetery in critical condition by a gang of criminals on January 1.

The complainant had further informed that the child was struggling for his life without proper medical care and requested a team of officials to visit the village where the crime took place and give necessary assistance to the victim in order to save his life. He had also requested adequate preventive steps to stop recurrence of the crime.

Following the direction of the NHRC, the Bhadrak SP had sent a report that on January 1, one Ajodhya Rani Nayak had lodged an FIR against three labourers at the Chandbali police station alleging that the trio had unnatural sex with his son Kaustav Nayak.

later, they had injured him grievously and thrown him near a bush. The accused had been subsequently arrested and forwarded to the court for judicial remand after their medical examination, while the victim had been treated at the SCB Medical College in Cuttack.

The SP had mentioned that the probe was in progress and the district administration had provided Rs 10,000 to the victim’s family members as compensation. However, since the report was not complete, the NHRC had again directed the SP to send a final report on the issue. Earlier, the NHRC had sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Director General of Police (DGP) on the issue.
