A body of a five-year-old boy, who was missing since Friday, was recovered from a pit in Laxminagarpada in the district on Saturday.
The child was identified as the son of one Jagdu Bag of Laxminagarpada. Locals spotted the body in the pit and immediately informed the boy’s family and police.
The Town police, who immediately rushed to the spot, seized the body and sent it to a local hospital for postmortem.
While the exact motive behind the boy’s death was yet to be ascertained, circumstantial evidence suggested that the child was killed and then thrown into the pit.
Family members lodged a complaint with police suspecting it as a case of child sacrifice.
