Recounts horrible experience

It was a gala time for the villagers of Rajapur as a village lad, who escaped a multi storey under construction building collapse tragedy at Mlibhakam in Chennai, reached home on Monday.

Prakash Rout(28) remained trapped almost for three days in debris of the collapsed building, but was rescued alive. Hundreds of villagers rushed to his house to have a glimpse of the youth.

While recounting the horrendous memory, Prakash stated that it was a rebirth for him. “Had I ever dreamt that I would once again able to see my family when the 12 storey building collapsed,” he wondered.

According to Prakash, on the fateful day of June 28, he and other Odia workers were working in 7th floor of the 12 storey under construction building. Rain started at about 4 pm. later, lighting struck twice and electricity went off. They were sitting in the 7th floor. They experienced the building started trembling. After two minutes, once again the building started trembling and within a moment the whole building crashed like a pack of cards.

Prakash stated as he was near a pillar, he was saved. For the whole three days when he was under the debris, he saved his life by drinking rain water. He was losing his patience without food and water inside the debris.

“But as I was a devotee of lord Hanuman, I prayed the lord to save me. After 72 hours, I heard the sounds of a rescue team carrying out an operation. It was the NDRF personnel who spotted me lying trapped and rescued me,” he said.
