Ahead of November 3 by-poll, Congress Odisha in-charge Dr A Chellakumar severely criticised both the BJP and the BJD for bringing out “anti-farmer” Bills at a farmers’ meeting here on Saturday.
The NDA Government has brought the farm Bills to provide benefit to top companies. The recently passed Bill doesn’t mention a single word about the minimum support price (MSP) of crops
“The Bills don’t mention about a single word about MSP. The Congress Government formed Food Corporation of India (FCI) to protect the interest of farmers. But the Modi Government is protecting the interest of corporates when every other day farmers are committing suicide,” said Chellakumar.
He said the double-standard policy of the BJD has been exposed as it supported the Bills in Lok Sabha and demanded in Rajya Sabha to send them to the Select Committee. “Both parties are two sides of a coin and working in one line.”
The Congress organised the rally involving bullock carts and tractors. But the meeting couldn’t be held smoothly due to a heavy downpour.
Among others, PCC working president Pradeep Majhi, MP Saptagiri Ulaka, MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Sarat Pattnayak, Susila Tiria, Navajyoti Patanaik, Hemanta Das, Abhishek Mahananda, Naresh Mohanty, Bisobhusan Das and Yasir Nawaz were present.
