Cheer among Dhenkanal puja revellers as weather improves

Dhenkanal lakshmi Puja, which had almost lost its sparkle due to incessant rains since October 21, got back its vivacity on October 27 after the weather improved and rains stopped.

Village artisans of several self help group (SHG) had displayed their products at the Pallishree Mela stalls but they were lying unsold due to the rains. The stadium ground too had turned muddy for which the purchasers were hesitating to enter into the ground. But after the weather changed, the sale has gained momentum as puja revelers in greater number were pouring in.

The makeshift shop owners, who were seating without business and depended on free food packets of Ganesh Bazar and other puja committees, significantly started doing brisk business since Sunday afternoon.

Interestingly, Dhenkanal Puja market starting from Kunjakanta to Station Bazar and Ganesh Bazar to Bazichauk swelled with more and more travellers turning out for a stroll. However, the 38-member lakshmi Puja Committee has decided to restrain it from organizing a colourful and gorgeous immersion festival as the entire State is in distress for the cyclone, floods and torrential rains.

Instead of taking part in a united immersion procession, the puja committees will immerse their idols individually simply with playing of Ghanta and blowing of conch.

The money saved in this way will be handed over to the District Collector for the Chief Minister Relief Fund.
