The Commissionerate Police on Sunday evening seized several bundles of files and papers of two chit fund companies from a drain in the city.
After getting information from residents of Bomikhal and Rasulgarh here, the police rushed to the spot where four sacks of papers were floating on the main drain of the areas and fished out the sacks from the water.
While opening the sacks, the police found several files and papers belonging to the Swastik India Multi-State Cooperative Agency and the Utkal Gramin Chit Fund Company.
Police sources said they might handover these papers to the CBI. Fearing the CBI raid, somebody has thrown away his chit fund papers and files into the drain water, suspected the police.
Notably, the Swastik India Multi-State Cooperative Agency had opened its office near the IDBI Bank on the Janpath under Saheed Nagar police limits in the city and another office in Bomikhal area in which a senior BJD leader was involved.
Apart from this, the company had opened its offices at Ahmadabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, New Delhi, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Jaipur.
The company, which is among the 44 chit fund companies being probed by the CBI, had allegedly duped gullible investors of Rs 100 crore by promising hefty returns.
