BJP State vice-president Subash Chauhan resigned from the party on Tuesday after 30 long years of association with it citing injustice over election ticket allocation.
In a letter addressed to BJP State president Basant Panda, Chauhan stated that he resigned from the party’s primary membership.
Chauhan expressed discontentment over being denied party ticket to contest from the Bargarh Lok Sabha constituency even though he had bagged the highest number of votes among all the contesting BJP candidates in the State in the 2014 elections. He alleged “conspiracy” behind his being deprived of the nomination.
Notably, the BJP has this time fielded another senior party leader, Suresh Pujari, as the candidate for the Bagarh LS seat, where the BJD has put up its Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya as his rival.
Sources revealed that the BJP leadership had wanted Chauhan to contest against BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik from the Bijepur Assembly seat, but he refused the offer.
