Chariot row: law Min must quit, says BJP

Holding law Minister Arun Sahoo responsible for the confusion surrounding public access to the chariots during the Rath Yatra of lord Jagannath at Puri, the BJP has demanded that the Minister should apologise and resign from his post without any further delay.

“The law Minister lacks basic knowledge. He has made the issue of devotees climbing chariots more controversial by taking a confusing decision without consulting the Shankaracharya and the Gajapati.

While it is a well-known fact that the Shankaracharya is the final advisor in the temple rituals and rites and it is proved on many occasions in courts earlier. How the Minister took a decision which directly hurt the sentiments of crores of Odia people and also the Shankaracharya,” questioned party State spokesperson Sameer Mohanty. Mohanty said the Government has no right to hurt the religious and spiritual sentiments of people.
