Chaos rules roost in B’swar vax centres

Published on:

Chaos and confusion marred the vaccination centres and aspirants to take vaccines are facing untold woes. Complaints of this sort are pouring across the district from almost all centres.

There have been allegations that people are not getting appropriate prior information before the vaccination date and are not getting vaccines despite getting advanced tokens. For getting a token, people are standing in queues before the centre from midnight. But still they are facing discrepancies. In social media a picture went viral that came from Bhograi. It showed that an old man slept before the centre tying mosquito net. There are allegations of pilferage of vaccines too.

These complaints are mostly received from the people of the age group of over 44 years. The district hospital authorities claimed that for the people above 44 separate  centres have been created  to avoid congestion and in the headquarters town itself, five centres were operative.

A senior officer in the DHH under condition of anonymity said that the whole problem cropped up due to acute paucity of vaccines. “The vaccination process has to be stalled due to a short supply of vaccine.

Due to erratic supply of vaccines, people are impatient. The problem is that there are still people in the 45 years category and above who have not availed the first jab. Many who availed first dose are impatient as the second dose period is either due or lapsed,” he said.

District Project Manager, National Health Mission, Anil Mohanty said, “In order to avoid rush and streamline the vaccination of people over 45 years, the spot  token arrangement was made since there was no provision of slot booking for them earlier.

The tokens as per availability of doses for a particular centre are issued on the same day.

However, in view of the current situation we are considering to begin slot booking for people above 45 years age to streamline the process.” He added, “Although compliant of pilferage of vaccine is received from one centre yet there was no truth in it.”
