Chaos in Ganjam RTO office as delays protested

Published on:

Hundreds of people who came with different works to the RTO office at Chhatrapur on Saturday created a ruckus in its premises expressing their ire against the lethargic and venal officials who are harassing the common people and not doing their work properly.

These people came there to get their fresh licence or renew the old ones, fitness of vehicles, registrations and undergo driving test etc. The situation remained tense for an hour. The aggrieved people said that the officials were delaying the works knowingly for vested interest. A large number of people had stood in long queues that lingered for two days forcing the people to create uproar and demand action against the erring officials.

According to an observer, due to delay in checking the vehicle fitness, chassis number and driving test by the officials, the main road was jammed, causing inconvenience among the people. MVI Samir Dalai said that from Monday the online system would be introduced which will minimize the problem of the people.

A Central Government employee who came to the office said that the Government should fix CCTVs in each and every space of the RTO complex to monitor the nexus between the officials and the brokers. A former Government official and senior citizen who was waiting in the RTO complex for six long hours to get his work done demanded the resignation of the State Transport Minister and Transport Secretary for the inconvenience. He also demanded a special counter to address the problems of senior citizens and another for women.

The Government should immediately streamline the system and put adequate infrastructure at place to tackle the emerging rush, many opined.
