Belpahar Municipality Chairman Parsuram Sahoo on Tuesday appeared before the Vigilance police here in connection with the lED light scam in the civic body.
Sahoo was questioned by Vigilance DSP Birendra Kumar Naik in the presence of Inspector Sudhansu Pujari. Out of nine questions asked, some could not be replied correctly by Sahoo.
Sahoo, however, asserted that a policy decision was already taken by the earlier council for purchase of lED lights from a specific firm, and as Chairman he only approved payment of `70 lakh to the company.
However, soon after the rates of lED lights came down in the local market, the balance amount was not paid to the company.
The Executive Officer of the municipality would soon be subjected to vigilance inquiry, DSP Naik said.
