C'garh labourers rescued from J'suguda brick kiln

Published on:

Twenty-one migrant labourers of Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh were rescued from a brick kiln in Jharsuguda district on Thursday.  They included eleven men, ten women and five children in the age group of four to nine years. They were forced to work in the kiln at village Tataikela under the Barmal PS of Jharsuguda district for last four months.

According to the District labour Officer A Roy, the owner of the brick kiln had gone to Chhattisgarh to “recruit” labourers and brought them to Jharsuguda by train in December 2014. A complaint was lodged with the Assistant labour Commissioner of Bilaspur by one of the labourers in March 2015.

Accordingly, the Bilashpur AlC recently asked the Jharsuguda Collector and SP to rescue the labourers, who were working in miserable conditions. The Jhaesuguda DlO made all arrangements to send them to their villages. The DlO further said action would be taken for the violation of labour Act by the kiln owner.
