The hunger strike of the MBA and MCA students of the Regional College of Management (RCM) here went on for 41 days on Sunday.
They agitating students are demanding issue of final degree certificates in favour of pass-out students, but due to some mess with the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), the college authorities have failed to fulfil the demand.
On Thursday, the students had locked up the college, protesting ‘irresponsible’ behaviour of RCM director Prabir Pal. The students had also demanded apology from the director and his son for using ‘abusive’ language against the girl students.
“We are yet to get any positive response from the BPUT and the college management on issue of certificate,” said MBA student Razaq Quadir, adding, “If the students get violent, the matter will spin out of control and none but the BPUT and the RCM authorities will be responsible for it.”
Quadir alleged that the RCM management, instead of fulfilling their demand, was rather trying to foil the agitation by intimidating the students.
Notably, the BPUT is not recognizing the MBA admission of the RCM as valid as the affiliated institution had not got the required sanction from the university before taking admission in the course. As a result, the BPUT is not issuing certificates to the RCM pass-out students since 2009.
